How To cook Brown Rice

Brown rice has a high nutritive value than white rice. The sources of carbohydrates and fibers have come from brown rice. We also get magnesium, thiamine, iron and folic acid from brown rice. So it is healthy food for us. That is why people like to have brown rice instead of white rice. Generally, we find various types of brown rice in the market.

They are short, medium and long grain in size. Here, size does not matter. Because the nutritive value does not depend on size. If you are a smart cook or not want to cook in lengthy then you can choose ‘’ instant brown rice’’. Because it takes about 8 to 10 minutes to cook. Other types of brown rice take a longer time to cook.  After choosing the desire brown rice, you can prepare the dish as like as you want. I want to give some tips to cook the brown rice from my kitchen experience so that you can cook it perfectly.

The cooking process of instant brown rice

At first, take 1 cup of brown rice and wash the rice well. Take a pot or rice cooker for cooking. Now place 2 ¼ cups water in the pot. Boil the water over high heat and pour the rice in hot water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir the rice for one time. When the rice is boiling set the heat in medium and cover the pot. After 8 to 10 minutes, reduce the cover and check the rice. If the rice looks fried then it is ready to eat.

So it is the easy technique of cooking the instant brown rice. But when you want to enjoy the brown rice by adding vegetables, meat, and other ingredients, you have to follow some other rules for cooking the brown rice.

Brown rice with vegetables or fried vegetable brown rice:

Ingredients:

  • 1 and a half cup of quick cooking brown rice
  • 3 and a half cup of water
  • 2 tablespoon of oil
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 4 green chili
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup chopped carrot
  • ¼ cup chopped potato
  • 2 chopped fried eggs
  • ¼ cup broccoli
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

Take a non-stick pan for cooking. Pour the oil and fry the chopped onion until it’s not turned into brown color. Then add garlic paste, chopped carrot, green chili, chopped broccoli, chopped potato, and salt. Mix them well and fry about 5 to 8 minutes. Now add the brown rice and fry until the original flavor of the rice has not come. After that mix the soy sauce and stir well. Next, add the water and cover the pan. Set the heat to the medium-high range. After finishing about 10 minutes, open the cover and add the chopped fried egg and red pepper flacks. Stir smoothly. Cook for 5 minutes extra in rest of the heat. If you want to increase the taste, you can add some roasted peanut or fried onion for garnishing and extra taste.

Now, if you want to get more twist and make more taste in your cooking, you can make beef with brown rice. So now I give you the recipe of ‘’Beef or mutton brown rice’’. I think it is the most delicious and appealing recipe for brown rice.

Beef or mutton with brown rice:

Ingredients:

  • 400g beef or mutton stir-fry strips
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 2 cup brown rice
  • ½ cup yogurt
  • 2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 3 black cardamom pods
  • 5 black peppercorns
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • Salt (as you like)
  • ¼ cup tomato sauce
  • 4 green chili

The process of cooking:

Step 1-

Take a bowl and mix the beef with soy sauce, yogurt, and 1 tablespoon oil. Cover the mixture. Keep the mixture in the fridge for marinade about 15 to 2o minutes.

Step 2-

Fried the brown rice and cook until almost cook. Now reduce from cooker and keep warm with cover.

Step 3-

Heat the oil. Add chopped onion, garlic paste, ginger paste, black peppercorns, cardamom pods, salt and fry about 1 minute. Now mix the beef with fried spices. Fry again. Add 4 cup water and cook the beef well. Now add tomato sauce and red chili powder. When meat boiled well and soup became dried then switch off the cooker.

Step 4-

Take a saucepan. Place half portion of rice. Spread the beef on the upper part of the rice. Now add other portion of rice over the beef. Cover the pan and keep for 30 minutes. After that uncover the pan and stir gently. The smell of the rice will come. Spread the fried onion and green chili over the beef brown rice and now I think it is ready for serving.

It will be so delicious food if you follow the right measurement of the ingredients.  The rice will be sticky or mashed when the rice cooked in overheat or water. It is a very common problem for a cook. There is a tip for getting the fried rice from the sticky or gummy rice. That is, spread the sticky rice under the fan and wait for 30 minutes and see the magic. The rice will back in fried texture.

Last, of all, it depends upon your choice which recipe do you like most. But whatever you like, you have to keep in mind in the measurement of rice and water; you can get your desire brown rice.
